Shola Shobowale Opens up On Her Time Away From Nollywood

Veteran actress Shola Sobowale has shed light on her decision to step away from Nollywood for over a decade, revealing the surprising jobs she took on to support her family during that time.


In a candid interview with media personality yesterday, that was shared on YouTube, Sobowale discussed the personal challenges she faced and the sacrifices she made for her loved ones.


The renowned actress, known for her powerful performances in iconic Nollywood films like ‘The Wedding Party’ ,‘Merry Men’ and ‘Woman King’ shared that her hiatus from acting wasn’t a planned career break.

Instead, it was a necessity driven by family responsibilities. Sobowale revealed that, after leaving Nigeria, she moved to London and worked as a cleaner and a cook.

Alrhough, she explained that these jobs, though far removed from the glamour of the Nigerian film industry, were crucial for her to financially support her family back home.


"I’m giving glory to God because one doesn't have to leave the movie industry for people to forget that person," Sobowale said during the interview.

"But in my case, I left the movie industry for over 10 years, and when I came back, people still accepted me."


She reflected on how, despite her absence, the Nollywood industry welcomed her back with open arms when she returned to acting.


Her journey highlights the resilience and dedication required not only to succeed in the entertainment industry but also to manage personal hardships. Sobowale’s story of working behind the scenes in a foreign country, far from the spotlight, speaks to the sacrifices many individuals make to care for their families.
